Strawberry Nectarine Smoothie Recipe with Cherries and Mint

Fruit and vegetable smoothies are among my favourites for a sunny morning. This time, I went for a strawberry nectarine smoothie with cherries and mint. The cherries were exactly what I had left: six, to be precise. 😀 Sometimes the fridge decides the proportions before you even start thinking about a recipe.

I enjoyed the result outside in the sunshine, and it was delicious. It’s a simple combination where the fruit provides the flavor and the mint adds freshness. With no milk, yogurt or added sweetener, this smoothie has a pulpy texture and a colour that depends on the fruit you use. You’ll find the quantities and full instructions in the recipe card.

Why you should try this recipe

I like this combination because the fruit takes centre stage: nectarines add fragrance and body, strawberries bring a sweet-tart note, and cherries round out the flavor. You can taste the mint too; it’s not just there to look pretty in the glass. 🙂

Since there’s no dairy or added sweetener, using ripe, flavorful fruit makes a real difference. Hard nectarines and bland strawberries won’t magically become something else once blended. Choose fruit in good condition, and keep in mind that its size and juiciness will affect the smoothie’s consistency and sweetness.

Otherwise, it’s quick to prepare, with no cooking or waiting around. Most of the time goes into washing and pitting the fruit, then the blender does its job. Which leaves more time to enjoy your smoothie outside in the sunshine, just as I did. 😀

Tips for a pleasant texture

Leave the nectarine skins on if they’re in good condition and thoroughly washed. Depending on your blender, tiny flecks of skin may remain in the drink. Don’t aim for the texture of clear juice: this smoothie contains pulp, and you may still notice the tiny strawberry seeds after blending.

Carefully remove the nectarine stones and check that each cherry is pitted before adding it to the jug. Use the mint leaves and discard any thick, fibrous stems, which can leave unpleasant bits in the drink.

Keep in mind that this recipe contains no added liquid, so the consistency depends on how juicy the fruit is. Follow your blender’s instructions and stop it if the ingredients aren’t circulating in the jug. Always switch the appliance off before scraping down the sides.

For a cold smoothie, use fruit straight from the fridge. This avoids adding ice, which would dilute the flavor as it melts. Serve in a wide-rimmed glass, and if you prefer a straw, choose one suitable for a thick, pulpy drink.

Frequently asked questions

Does this smoothie contain any added sugar?

No sugar, honey or syrup is added to this recipe. However, fruit contains naturally occurring sugars, so “no added sugar” doesn’t mean “sugar-free”. The final sweetness will vary depending on the fruit you choose.

Can I use a juicer instead of a blender?

Use a blender to get the result intended for this recipe. A juicer separates out some of the pulp and produces a different drink. Here, the aim is to blend the fruit together rather than extract its juice.

Can I replace the nectarines with peaches?

Yes, you can use peaches instead of nectarines, keeping the same number of similarly sized fruit. Choose ripe, fragrant peaches and peel them if you find the texture of the skin unpleasant.
