The Scents of Autumn: Amouage Guidance 46 and Epic 56

In my post about the autumn colors, I shared our little adventure through Prăpăstiile Zărneștiului and Plaiul Foii, where we went to enjoy the beautiful fall scenery and, of course, take a few (or a few hundred) photos. 😆

But autumn isn’t just about yellow, orange, and red leaves. It has its own scents, too. The smell of damp leaves, ripe fruit, cinnamon, freshly baked treats, and chilly mornings.

So, after sharing the colors of autumn, I thought it was only fair to explore the scents of autumn.

And no, this isn’t another apple and cinnamon cake recipe. Although, now that I think about it, that wouldn’t have been such a bad idea. 🤭

Instead, I want to tell you about two perfumes I recently discovered and loved so much that I felt they deserved a blog post of their own: Amouage Guidance 46 and Amouage Epic 56 Woman.

Two very different fragrances, but each managed to win me over in its own way.

Perfumes and Seasons: Why I Love Bold Fragrances

I don’t know if you choose your perfumes according to the season, but I’ve noticed that when the weather gets colder, I naturally gravitate toward richer, warmer, spicier scents.

Although, now that I think about it, I’ve always loved strong fragrances, regardless of the season. Which is probably why I occasionally “borrow” a perfume or two from *le husband. 🤫

I’ve never really cared whether a fragrance is marketed as masculine or feminine. If I like how it smells, I’ll wear it.

I love perfumes with personality. The kind that don’t smell like something you’ve encountered a hundred times before and that catch your attention from the very first spray.

That’s exactly how I ended up discovering these two Amouage fragrances.

And even though they’re quite different from each other, I couldn’t help feeling that both had somehow been made just for me. 🙂

Amouage Guidance 46 – The Perfume That Took Me Back to My Childhood

The first time I smelled Amouage Guidance 46, I was instantly transported back to my childhood.

I’m not exaggerating.

I suddenly remembered my grandparents’ pantry, where they used to store fruit for the winter. I can still remember the smell of ripe fruit, especially pears, filling the room.

That’s exactly what Guidance 46 reminded me of.

The scent was so familiar that, for a few seconds, I almost felt as though I was standing in that pantry again.

And here’s the interesting part: at that moment, I had absolutely no idea what notes the perfume contained.

It was only after reading its description that I discovered pear is actually one of its top notes.

So apparently, my imagination wasn’t playing tricks on me. 😁

I find it fascinating how a fragrance can bring back such a vivid memory when you least expect it. How a single scent can take you somewhere you haven’t been in years.

But Guidance 46 is about much more than pears.

It’s a complex fragrance that blends fruity notes with florals, woods, and spices.

Enthralling and beguiling, Guidance 46 Exceptional Extrait is a study in light and shade, fragility and strength, subtlety and ostentatiousness – paradoxes brought together with an immediacy that can be achieved only by the art of perfumery. Dosed at a staggering 46% concentration, it becomes a luxury gift for formal events and date night, with opulent projection and sillage. Its top notes include pear, hazelnut, bitter almond, rose water, pink pepper, and frankincense. At its heart, you’ll find rose, jasmine sambac, osmanthus, and saffron, while the base notes feature vanilla, sandalwood, cistus labdanum, ambergris, ambrette, cypriol, and woody accords such as Akigalawood and Georgywood.

I’ll admit that I couldn’t identify every single ingredient just by smelling the perfume. And I don’t think you need to be a fragrance expert to know whether you like a scent or not.

But once I’d read through the notes, I had a better understanding of where that intriguing combination of sweetness, florals, and woods was coming from.

What I particularly love about Guidance 46 is that, despite its sweet and fruity side, there’s nothing ordinary about it.

It’s feminine, sophisticated, and has something truly distinctive about it.

It doesn’t smell like a fragrance you come across everywhere, and I think that’s a big part of what drew me to it.

And just because it reminded me of my childhood doesn’t mean it smells like something my grandparents would have worn. 😂

Quite the opposite, actually. To me, it feels modern and elegant.

Why Does Guidance 46 Remind Me of Autumn?

Beyond the childhood memories it brings back, Guidance 46 has a warmth that makes it feel particularly suited to colder weather.

I can picture wearing it on a crisp autumn day, with a soft sweater, a beautiful coat, and perhaps a coffee in hand.

Not that we need a particular outfit to wear a perfume, but you know what I mean. 😁

I think it works beautifully during the day and in the evening, especially if you enjoy feminine fragrances with a strong personality.

And I definitely wouldn’t limit it to autumn. I think it would be just as lovely in winter.

Amouage Epic 56 Woman – Love at First Sniff

While I was testing Guidance 46, I decided to try Amouage Epic 56 Woman as well.

And this time, things were a little different.

If Guidance 46 won me over with the memory it brought back, Epic 56 was simply love at first sniff.

I smelled it, and I immediately loved it.

I hadn’t read its description, didn’t know what ingredients it contained, and wasn’t trying to identify any particular notes.

I just loved it.

Then I started reading about it, and when I saw that cinnamon, cumin, and pink pepper were among its main notes, I understood why it had appealed to me so much.

They’re exactly the kind of spices I love using in autumn, whether I’m cooking or baking.

I’ve always loved warm, spicy aromas that give you that cozy feeling.

And Epic 56 has something of that atmosphere.

Except that, at the same time, it smells incredibly sophisticated.

Or, to put it more simply, it smells cozy, but it also smells expensive.

I know “expensive” isn’t technically a fragrance family, but I think you know what I mean. 😁

It’s the kind of perfume that feels beautifully composed, with layer upon layer of scent and a presence that’s hard to ignore.

And once I read more about its composition, I understood why.

With an exceptional 56% perfume oil concentration, Epic 56 Woman revisits the legends of the Silk Road, uncovering a deeper story of the critically-acclaimed Epic Eau de Parfum. After close to five months of aging, the quality of its signature notes – Rose, Spices, Frankincense and Woods – is accentuated by a deeper and more complex ambery construction, leaving a lasting impression on the senses. The top notes are cumin, pink pepper, and cinnamon, creating a warm, spicy opening with plenty of personality. At its heart, you’ll find Centifolia rose, geranium, and jasmine tea, while the base combines amber, musk, oud, frankincense, guaiac wood, orris, sandalwood, patchouli, and vanilla.

Just looking at those notes, you can probably understand why I consider Epic 56 such a beautiful fragrance for the colder seasons.

It combines spices, florals, woods, and resinous notes in a way that feels rich and sophisticated.

Cinnamon, cumin, and pink pepper give it its spicy personality, while rose and jasmine tea bring a floral touch.

Meanwhile, oud, frankincense, amber, sandalwood, and vanilla add depth and warmth.

It’s an intense fragrance, but that’s precisely what I love about it.

And I think Epic 56 is definitely one of those fragrances worth trying on your skin rather than judging after a quick sniff from a tester strip.

Epic 56 and the Scents of Autumn

If I had to choose which of these two perfumes best captures the scents of autumn, I’d probably pick Epic 56.

Not because Guidance 46 isn’t suitable, but because Epic 56 contains so many of the aromas I personally associate with this time of year.

Cinnamon, spices, wood, frankincense…

They all remind me of chilly days, time spent in the kitchen, slow-cooked meals, and freshly baked treats filling the house with delicious smells.

But Epic 56 takes all those familiar aromas in a much more elegant direction.

It doesn’t smell like a cinnamon cake or a Christmas decorations shop. 😆

It’s a spicy, woody, sophisticated fragrance that I can easily imagine wearing in late autumn and throughout winter.

Guidance 46 vs. Epic 56 – Two Perfumes, Two Different Stories

What I find interesting is that I discovered these two perfumes almost at the same time, yet each won me over for a completely different reason.

Guidance 46 took me back to my childhood.

To my grandparents’ pantry, the fruit stored away for winter, and that familiar smell of pears I hadn’t even realised I remembered so vividly.

Epic 56 won me over with its spices.

With the aromas I love using in my kitchen, especially during autumn, and that wonderful combination of comfort and elegance.

To me, Guidance 46 feels more feminine, fruity, and creamy, while Epic 56 is spicier, deeper, and has a bolder character.

But they also have quite a few things in common.

Both contain rose, pink pepper, frankincense, vanilla, and sandalwood, even though those ingredients are blended in very different ways.

They’re both complex fragrances with plenty of personality, and both belong to Amouage’s Exceptional Extraits collection.

And there’s another interesting detail worth mentioning.

Guidance 46 has a 46% perfume oil concentration, while Epic 56 takes things even further with 56%.

That’s where the numbers in their names come from.

These are exceptionally high concentrations compared to those typically found in Eau de Parfum fragrances.

Of course, that doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll last equally long on everyone’s skin, or that a fragrance with a higher concentration is automatically better. But it’s an interesting detail, especially when we’re talking about premium niche perfumes.

And if you ask me, I honestly don’t think I could choose just one.

I love them for different reasons, and I think that’s exactly what makes them so special.

Actually, I think that’s part of the magic of perfume. Fragrances aren’t just pleasant smells. They can be connected to our memories, the places we’ve been, and the things that make us who we are.

Sometimes, a perfume brings back a memory you didn’t even realize you’d held on to so vividly. Other times, you discover a new scent and fall in love with it immediately, without needing any explanation.

And both of those things happened to me almost at the same time. 😁

So, after sharing the colors of autumn with you, I thought it would be lovely to share some of its scents, too. 🍂

Where to Find Amouage Perfumes

If I’ve made you curious about Guidance 46, Epic 56, or other Amouage fragrances, you can explore Obsentum or the official Amouage website for more information about their collections and fragrance notes.

I bought both perfumes from Obsentum myself, and this post is not sponsored. I wasn’t paid to write about them. They’re simply two fragrances I loved so much that I wanted to share my experience with you. 😁

I also buy discovery sets quite often because I love trying as many fragrances as possible and discovering combinations of notes I might never have thought of myself. And my obsession doesn’t stop at perfume. I have just as much of a soft spot for creams, lotions, and all sorts of products that indulge the senses.
