About me

About me - Loredana Arion in the Kitchen

“Gorgeous young lady,” says *le husband 😀. I’m convinced he means it, although he has also discovered that a well-timed compliment usually earns him an extra serving of dessert. Win-win.

I’m Loredana, a female geek and a certified introvert. After 20 years in the IT industry, I’ve come to the conclusion that I’d rather write an SQL query than scroll through clothing websites, and a night of online gaming easily beats a night out at a club. Well… maybe that’s a slight exaggeration. I’m not completely antisocial — it’s just that my social battery drains much faster than my phone’s. 😄

I still get excited when I crack a particularly weird technical problem, and every now and then I realize I’m debugging something in my head while washing dishes or kneading dough. Occupational hazard, I’m afraid. 😀

When I step outside my introvert bubble, I love travelling and discovering new places, people, food, and ideas. Every trip leaves me with something to bring home, even if that “souvenir” is simply a dish I’m determined to reverse-engineer in my kitchen. I then spend weeks reproducing it, one iteration at a time, until the final version is as close as possible to the one I tasted there.

My passion for cooking started many years ago for one very practical reason: not starving to death. 😀

Over time, it turned into a serious hobby, and desserts earned VIP status both in my heart and on my kitchen counter. I love experimenting, testing recipes, and discovering new flavor combinations, even if the end result sometimes means washing one more bowl. Or five.

After all, practice makes perfect — and every successful recipe is usually the result of a few failed iterations along the way. 😀

This blog is, in essence, a combination of all of the above: technology, cooking, and travel. A place where I gather my curiosities, genuinely tested recipes, stories from between pots and pans, culinary experiments, places I’ve discovered, and my little observations about the world — and, every now and then, a dose of humor that will probably only be fully appreciated by fellow geeks.

Welcome, and I hope you’ll find something here that you enjoy. And if not, at least have a look at the dessert photos. 😀
