Since I had my waffle maker right there, it was only a matter of time before I got around to my favorite fall combination: apples and cinnamon. 😋
This recipe actually came about while I was testing all sorts of waffle variations and trying to figure out what else I could add to the batter. I started with the idea of making simple waffles, but ended up with a version where the apples are much more than just a topping.
And I’m glad I did.
These apple cinnamon waffles are flavorful, lightly sweet, and have a really lovely texture.
Why You Should Try These Apple Cinnamon Waffles
First of all, because they contain a lot of apple. This isn’t a classic waffle recipe with a few apple slices added on top at the end. The apples are part of the batter, so you can really taste them in every bite.
The cinnamon complements the apples perfectly and turns simple waffles into a dessert that feels just right for fall.
I also love how easy they are to make. There are no complicated techniques or special ingredients involved, and if you have a waffle maker in your kitchen, you’re practically all set.
They can be served plain while still slightly warm, or turned into a more filling breakfast with yogurt, fruit, or a little peanut butter.
Tips for the Best Apple Cinnamon Waffles
Choose flavorful apples. The apples are quite noticeable in these waffles, so it’s worth using a variety you enjoy eating on its own. I prefer slightly tart apples because they balance the sweetness really well.
Don’t rush to open the waffle maker. Let the waffles cook properly before lifting the lid. If they are opened too early, they may tear or stick. I usually leave mine for about 4 minutes.
Keep in mind how juicy your apples are. Some apples release more juice than others, which can affect the consistency of the batter. If the apples are very juicy, the batter may turn out slightly softer.
Don’t overfill the waffle maker. The batter will spread as it cooks, so it’s better to use a moderate amount than to end up with waffles overflowing all over the appliance. I’ve been there, and it’s definitely not the most fun part of making waffles. 😄
For crispier waffles, let them cool slightly on a wire rack. If they are stacked on top of each other immediately after cooking, the steam will soften them. A wire rack helps them retain more of their texture on the outside.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use any type of apples?
Yes. Both sweet and slightly tart apples work well. The final flavor will be a little different depending on the variety, but the recipe works well with both.
Can I make these waffles without a waffle maker?
The recipe is designed specifically for a waffle maker, as the batter needs the heat and shape provided by the appliance. If you don’t have a waffle maker, I wouldn’t try turning this into a pancake recipe without adjusting the batter.
Can I freeze the waffles?
Yes. Allow the waffles to cool completely, then freeze them in a suitable container or freezer bag, ideally with sheets of parchment paper between them.
If you love the combination of apples and cinnamon, I think these are worth trying. It’s the kind of simple recipe you can make for a sweet breakfast or whenever you’re craving something good without wanting to spend too much time in the kitchen.
