There are people who, on their birthday, want a big table surrounded by friends, music, cake and champagne.
I, on the other hand, wanted to get away somewhere quiet. Somewhere I had nothing to do, nothing to check off a list and, if possible, no reason to look at the clock every two hours.
And that’s how I ended up at Străjerii Verzi, in Șirnea, with *le husband (because obviously I wasn’t going alone 😅), two nights booked and a very clear idea of what I wanted my birthday to look like: coffee on the terrace in the morning, the forest right in front of us, Netflix, plenty of junk food (🤫) and as little noise and fuss as possible.
In other words, a very ambitious plan: to do absolutely nothing for three days.
The Road to Străjerii Verzi
The road is mostly good, but the closer we got to the property, the further we seemed to get from actual pavement, and at some point we started wondering whether we were, in fact, still on the right route.
But we made it. And once we arrived, we pretty quickly forgot about the road getting there. Because this was exactly what we had been looking for: forest, birdsong, the smell of pine trees and quiet.
Străjerii Verzi consists of A-frame cabins tucked away in the forest, surrounded by pine trees and a whole lot of peace and quiet. We arrived, checked in and, naturally, headed straight for the terrace to see if it looked as good in real life as it did in the photos.
Spoiler: it did. 🤭
Breakfast at the Door

The cabin was exactly what I had in mind for those three days.
We had the terrace, the forest right in front of us and enough space that there was no need to go looking for some picture-perfect mountain view. It was already there.
The mornings were probably my favourite part.
Breakfast was included, and every morning a little basket of goodies was waiting for us at the cabin door. One of those small details that makes a stay feel a little more special. We didn’t have to get up, get dressed and go somewhere for breakfast. It was simply there, waiting at the door.

You grab your coffee, step out onto the terrace and there it is: the forest. The smell of pine trees in the morning does the rest.
We sat there with our coffee, looked out at the trees and enjoyed the fact that, for a few days, nobody was rushing us anywhere.
We Tried to Be the Kind of People Who Explore
At some point, naturally, we got curious about exploring the surroundings.
Because, after all, we were in the mountains. Spending three whole days without at least attempting to venture into the forest would have seemed slightly suspicious.

So off we went, with the best intentions.
Until, at some point, we heard dogs barking and realised there were shepherds somewhere nearby.
And that was the end of our expedition. 😂
So we calmly turned around and headed back to the cabin, where the hosts’ friendly dog was waiting for us. 😁
Netflix, Chips and Other Very “Mountain” Activities

The original plan was to enjoy the quiet and keep things simple. Which, in our case, also meant Netflix and a reasonable amount of junk food.
Wafers, chips and other things you probably wouldn’t expect to find in an article about “wellness in the mountains.”
But we weren’t there for a detox, sunrise yoga or to return home as completely transformed spiritual beings.
We were there for slow coffee mornings, sitting on the terrace, the forest all around us and evenings when we didn’t have to do anything.
And to recharge our batteries.

What I Actually Loved About It
I think what I liked most was that the place didn’t make us feel like we needed a schedule.
The whole concept behind Străjerii Verzi revolves around nature, peace and getting away from the everyday hustle and bustle. And for me, this time, that’s exactly what a successful getaway looked like.
We didn’t tick off any hiking trails.
We didn’t visit a list of attractions.
We didn’t set an alarm just to “make the most of the day.”
We stayed.
We ate.
We drank coffee.
We read.
We watched Netflix.
And, for three days, I genuinely didn’t feel like anything was missing.
Maybe a getaway doesn’t always have to be packed with activities to be worth it. I wanted to disappear from the noise for a little while and do very little.
And that’s exactly what I did.
Sometimes, three days in which not much happens are exactly what you need.
